Frequently Asked Questions

Using the Box.net widget

This widget enables you to share large files with others and use storage at Box.net.

Find the “Box.net file sharing” widget in your widget tab, drag it to your sidebar and click on it to open. If you already have a Box.net embed code, post it into the text box. If you need a code, click the “go get some HTML code” link and paste the resulting embed code into the text box. Then pick a size for your widget, save it and you’re done.

I have registered at Box.net but I can’t see any widget code
You must add the widget from your widget tab in your blog’s dashboard. Just registering will not do anything until you have the widget.

Can I change the colour of the widget?
Look inside the code you were given for the widget for color=000000 (the six digits could vary)
If you go to Visibone or this Color Wheel find the colour you want and take the # away
Put those six digits there instead.

Can I change size of the widget?
If you leave the boxes in our widget configuration screen empty then the size you made at Box.net stays.
If you want to change the size, just use the boxes in our widget.
Note: If you make the widget too small it might not look or work properly.

Can I download something from someone else and upload it in my widget?
It would be polite to ask.

Can I link directly to someone else’s widget / share links?
No. Bandwidth is limited on Box.net free accounts so ‘hotlinking’ of any sort is not permitted.

Can I limit who can download from my widget?
No. It is not possible to stop anyone from downloading unless you have a fully private blog.

Can I find out who has downloaded my files?
That is not possible.

Can I use this code to embed any other sort of flash?
No, that cannot be done.

Can I put this widget in a post?
It only works in a sidebar.

What files can I share?
If the file is legal to distribute you can share it.
