Akismet, a wordpress.com blog and the API key

If you are blogging here at http://wordpress.com you are already protected by Akismet. You don’t have to do anything.

If you are blogging with WordPress somewhere else you will not have a key automatically. Just having that blog does not entitle you to a key. You need to register here for an account to get a key.

If you signed up for a wordpress.com blog just to get an API key then you can safely delete the blog and still keep the key for use on a blog elsewhere. Note: this does NOT free up blog names for re-use. And if you delete a blog you cannot get it back. At all. So do be sure.

If you signed up but just for the Akismet key but did NOT get a key when you logged in, send an email to support@ wordpress.com from the email address you signed up with. One will then be sent back to you. And please be polite :)
